Privacy Statement
The ALL Student Loan family of corporations recognizes the importance of safeguarding the privacy of our customers’ personal information. We want you to know we are dedicated to ensuring that such information is properly used and appropriately protected. As a result, we have adopted the following privacy principles, which we observe when serving our customers:
1. We maintain strict standards and procedures to protect your private information from misuse.
2. We collect, retain, and use information about you where necessary to assist us in serving you or in managing our business. We currently collect and retain the following categories of information about you:
Information we receive directly from you, for example:
• Contact information such as your name, address, email address or telephone number; and
• Identification information such as your Social Security number or your mother's maiden name.
Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or Schools, such as:
• Account balances;
• Payment history; and
• Account usage.
Information we receive from consumer reporting agencies, for example:
• Credit history; and
• Credit scores.
3. We may share information with non-affiliated companies, including financial service providers, such as lenders and banks, with whom we have joint marketing agreements and non-financial companies, such as direct marketers or loan servicers, if:
• it is for the purpose of providing you with information about additional products or services;
• you request or authorize it;
• the information is provided to help complete a transaction you initiate;
• the information is provided to a reputable credit bureau or similar information reporting agency;
• it is necessary for our third-party loan servicing agents (“Loan Servicers”) to properly service your loan(s); or
• it is otherwise permitted or required under applicable law.
4. We may share this information with our affiliated companies, including financial service providers and non-financial companies, to:
• protect and administer your loan account(s);
• properly service your loan(s);
• comply with laws and regulations;
• offer other products and services to you; and
• help design or improve our products and services.
You have the right to limit the non-transactional information we share with our affiliates, such as your credit history, certain application information, and employment history. You may also limit our affiliates from marketing their products or services to you based on personal information that they receive from other ALL Student Loan companies.
5. We will always tell you, upon your request, the specific business purpose behind our collection, retention, and use of your personal information.
6. We use commercially reasonable procedures to help ensure that your loan account information is accurate, current, and complete. We respond in a timely manner to your requests to correct inaccurate information and to update and remove old information. However, much of your loan account information is maintained by our Loan Servicers. We will use commercially reasonable methods to cause any such Loan Servicer to respond in a timely manner to such requests.
7. Each of our employees has the responsibility of maintaining the confidentiality of customer information. We require all of our employees to agree in writing to protect the confidentiality of customer information and to use it only for our business purposes. Our policy is to prohibit employees from accessing your personal information unless there is a business reason to do so. We train our employees to recognize the importance of customer confidentiality and privacy, and we take appropriate disciplinary measures to enforce compliance with our privacy policies. We require vendors, service companies, or other third parties we hire, to agree to safeguard any confidential information about you and to comply with all applicable laws.
8. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural security safeguards that comply with federal standards to prevent unauthorized access to your non-public personal information. Only those employees of schools or service vendors who have a business reason to know personally identifiable information about you are granted access to such data. We employ, and are committed to updating, technology that protects the security of our customer information.
9. If you wish to direct us to limit the personal information we share, please call us toll free at 1-888-271-9721, or send your instructions to ALL Student Loan, Customer Service, 6701 Center Drive West, Suite 500, Los Angeles, CA 90045. You may select one or more of the following options:
Option # 1. Direct us not to share nonpublic personal information with our affiliated companies, except as permitted by law.
Option # 2. Direct us not to allow any of our affiliated companies to use your personal information to market to you, except as permitted by law.
Option # 3. Direct us not to share nonpublic personal information with non-affiliated third parties, except as permitted by law.
10. Your preference will remain in effect until you tell us otherwise. If you previously told us not to share, you don’t need to contact us again unless you wish to change your election.
11. If you contact us and you and another person have jointly obtained a product or service, we will treat a do-not-share instruction by you as applying only to you, unless you specifically request that such do-not-share instruction applies to all joint customers.
12. Occasionally, we may place "cookies" on your computer when you visit our website. Cookies are pieces of data that are placed on your computer that allow you to use the functionalities of our website and help us understand how you use our site. We may place both temporary and non-expiring cookies on your computer when you visit. Temporary cookies are designed to stay on your computer only while you are visiting our websites and may be used to temporarily record session information for our online application process. Non-expiring cookies are placed on your hard drive, allowing us to collect anonymous information such as date and time of visits, the time spent on the site, and pages viewed while on the site. We do NOT use cookies to collect any personally identifiable information. By changing settings located in your Web browser you may prevent cookies from being placed on your computer. We do not collect personally identifiable information from visitors to our site unless you expressly provide it to us.
Vermont residents only: If you are a Vermont resident we may disclose the following information to other financial institutions with which we have joint marketing agreements or to companies that perform services on our behalf:
• Information we receive from you, including your name, address, and other contact information;
• Information about your transaction(s) with us or our affiliates, such as your payment history, account balance, and account usage.
California residents only: If you are a resident of California, we will not share non-public personal information about you with non-financial companies with whom we are not affiliated, unless otherwise permitted by law. We will provide you with further privacy choices before sharing non-public personal information about you with unaffiliated financial companies, unless otherwise permitted by law.
The effective date of this privacy statement is January 1, 2008. It supersedes all prior privacy statements. We reserve the right to amend this privacy statement, along with any related provisions, at any time. We will provide you with notice of any change, if required by law.
